EXPERIENCE:
At Mandell Menkes LLC, Ms. Karpowicz concentrates her practice on commercial and bankruptcy matters with nearly all of her practice devoted to litigation. The majority of her practice is focused on creditor’s rights, collection, and judgment enforcement. Her clients primarily consist of lenders, lessors, and other financial institutions. She also represents individuals and many other types of businesses. Much of her practice involves subjects such as contract disputes, commercial code litigation (UCC), repossessions, fraud allegations, and foreclosure litigation including defenses to the Truth in Lending Act (TILA) and Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA).
She’s experienced in contested motion practice, depositions, and trial work. Ms. Karpowicz has represented clients in collection of unpaid loans, leases, debt for goods sold and delivered, assertion and protection of secured collateral including mortgages and other liens, collection of unsecured debt and unpaid professional fees. In bankruptcy proceedings, she often monitors cases, files proof of claims and contests automatic stays as well as challenges discharge-ability when necessary. Ms. Karpowicz is also experienced in post-judgment and judgment enforcement proceedings such as garnishments, levies and liens, and enforcement of foreign judgments.
As a law student, Ms. Karpowicz was a student attorney for the Boston University Civil Litigation Program, providing pro bono legal services to indigent clients in matters of family law, landlord/tenant disputes, social security disability appeals, and unemployment matters. During law school she also served as the Justice of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, as a student advisor, and participated in orientation and registration for new students.
Ms. Karpowicz also speaks Polish.
Ms. Karpowicz is admitted to the Illinois Bar as well as the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Illinois.
