Local Restauranteur Voluntarily Dismisses Complaint Against Mandell Menkes’ Client Crain Communications, Inc.

Mandell Menkes represented Crain Communications, Inc., the publisher of Crain’s Chicago Business, in a defamation claim brought by local restauranteur, Philip Tadros based on an article in Crain’s Chicago Business that Mr. Tadros alleged was false and portrayed him in a negative light. In the face of multiple motions highlighting Mr. Tadros’ shortcomings in the discovery process, on January 31, 2020, Mr. Tadros voluntarily dismissed his suit without prejudice. In response, Mandell Menkes sought attorneys’ fees and costs. On March 11, 2020, Judge James O’Hara of the Circuit Court of Cook County dismissed the case without prejudice, while retaining jurisdiction over the issues of fees and costs to be awarded to Mandell Menkes’ client.
